Grisel syndrome is
rotary atlantoaxial subluxation associated with pharyngeal infection or surgical trauma that occurs predominantly in children. Pharyngeal infection or surgery results is hyperemia that causes decalcification of the anterior arch of C1 and laxity of the transverse ligament.
